10 Books Paired with 10 Matching Songs

Before I get into this article, I want to thank Marie from Drizzle & Hurricane Books for her own article, Pairing 10 books I recommend with 10 songs I love, for inspiring this article! Make sure you check her blog out and the amazing articles she writes!

Salutations Chapterlings! I wanted to do something a tad bit different compared to what I usually do. You’ve seen me make dedicated playlists for various books, but you haven’t seen me recommend a single song for specific books. So below, I have chosen ten books and ten pairing songs. You may dance, you might laugh, you might feel a little nostalgic, and some you may end up crying. No matter what, I hope you will enjoy these books and these matching songs.

๐ŸŽถ Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa ๐ŸŽถ

I love this series with my whole heart and soul. From the characters to the mythology, I love every piece of this series and I can’t recommend it enough. So would you be surprised if I told you that the only way to read this series is to listen to the Memoirs of a Geisha soundtrack? I couldn’t choose only one song and since it feels like I’m recommending the whole trilogy, well… you just need to go listen to the soundtrack as you read!

๐ŸŽถ Check Please! by Ngozi Ukazu ๐ŸŽถ

This duology is just my whole heart and soul. I love the way Bitty and Jack come together, the way they love each other, the way they handle the challenges that face them, and it just turns my heart into a giant puddle. And only one song came to mind when I decided to feature this graphic novel duology, You Are the Reason (Duet Version) by Calum Scott feat. Leona Lewis. Every time I hear this song, I instantly think of Check Please and everything these two graphic novels talk about, the romance, the way they’re friends and teammates support one another, and just…everything. This duology is everything!

๐ŸŽถ Heartstopper by Alice Oseman ๐ŸŽถ

Who doesn’t know about Heartstopper by now? Just like the duology before, this is a series that I love with my whole heart especially because of the way bisexual representation is shown in this graphic novel series. But I also love the way this series tackles so many important topics like homophobia and learning about one’s sexuality. And even though I love all of these things equally, I really love the way Charlie and Nick come together. It’s so wholesome, so realistic, and my heart just melts when I think about it. So I had to, I absolutely have to recommend Can’t Help Falling In Love by Haley Reinhart. I love how perfectly this song matches to Charlie and Nick falling in love, becoming a couple, and just them being together. What can I say? I’m a die hard romantic.

๐ŸŽถ There Will Come A Darkness by Katy Rose Pool ๐ŸŽถ

Of course I had to put this book on this list! This made my top books for 2019, this book has it’s own playlist, and I am dying to get my hands on an arc of the next book in this series! I love these characters, I love the world building, and I loved how it was so easy for me to fall deep into the story line. Bonus, this has multiple povs and I never, ever rave about a book that has more than two povs. And to pair this book with a song that’s outside of the playlist I have already created, well… Born For This by The Score is the perfect choice! This is a song that’s sure to get your blood pumping as you read about these five main character with an intertwined destiny and a prophecy to fulfill.

๐ŸŽถ Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco ๐ŸŽถ

Oh ho, it’s time to talk about one of my all time favorite series! A series is which I still need to finish, but that’s besides the point! I love this series, I love Audrey Rose, Thomas Cresswell is bae, and each book’s world building sucks me in immediately. It’s no surprise that Kerri Maniscalco is an auto-buy author for me and it’s all thank you my spouse when they gifted me Stalking Jack the Ripper one morning. And if I had to choose one song to pair with this series, I would have to choose Revelation by Abel Korzeniowski. With the setting of each book, this is a perfect song to help enrich the chills you’ll experience as you read each book. I really love it and it’s from one of my favorite television series.

๐ŸŽถ The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum ๐ŸŽถ

Okay, I promise I won’t get too emotional and sappy. Oh god, I love this book so much for so many reasons. This is one of my favorite reads for 2020 and I’m still not over it. Every time I think of this book, my heart ignites with so many feelings. Plus, there’s so many themes involving space! Now, it might be a little cliche, but the song that reminds me of this book the most is Vanilla Twilight by Owl City. I know, it’s a total throwback song, but it makes me think about so many things this book deals with. From space, relationships, and friendships, this book fits perfectly with the constant theme of family and love.

๐ŸŽถ How to Make Friends with the Dark by Kathleen Glasgow ๐ŸŽถ

Yup, I’m going to make you feel all the emotions with this this book and song recommendation. This was the first book I ever wrote a review for on this blog and it was the first book that I cried the whole way through in a long, long time. I’m not going to lie, this book wrecked me in so many ways, but I have to talk about this book. I feel that this book isn’t talked about enough in the book community and it’s a greatly underrated book. In case you didn’t get the hint, this is me telling you to go read this book… and we should have a conversation about the whole thing! But while you’re reading this book, I can’t recommend the pairing song, Heart by Sleeping At Last. It’s no secret that Sleeping At Last is one of my favorite bands to listen to, but this particular song of their’s fits so well with the atmosphere, the constant change in emotions, and learning to find your place with a family member you don’t know much about.

๐ŸŽถ Leo Loves Aries by Anyta Sunday ๐ŸŽถ

I recently finished the audiobook and I can already tell I’m going to love this whole series. I’m still finalizing my review, but oh, this book is so good. I love how this book shows what it means to explore your sexuality, learning what it means to truly try before dismissing something or someone, and the slow burn is so, so good. This book also explores what it means to try to overcome bad relationships and really shows the reality that things are easier said than done. Aside from the romance, there’s also a character in this book who is visually impaired and I think the representation was well done. This is just an all around great book that I really enjoyed. Still kicking myself in the butt for not picking this up sooner. But you need a song recommendation and I can’t think of better song than Deep Blue by The Midnight. This song describes our main character, Theo, absolutely perfectly and how he learns about his sexuality, his desires, and eventually, him coming to the realization that he loves the main love interest.

๐ŸŽถ Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles ๐ŸŽถ

I absolutely had to include this book! First anticipated release of 2020 to be five stars and it has so many themes similar to Phantom of the Opera and Moulin Rouge. I absolutely loved this book. I’m still thinking about it, still spamming my friends whenever I get the chance about this book, and counting down the days until the next book is released. I loved the characters, the world building, and mystery of it all. So naturally when I was thinking about a perfect song to pair with this book, I instantly thought of Just Like Fire by Pink. What better song to give you a glimpse at how headstrong, ambitious, and spectacular our main character truly is!

๐ŸŽถ Sadie by Courtney Summers ๐ŸŽถ

I have debated for hours if I wanted to add this book onto this list. Yes, yes I do. I read this book in 2019 and wrote a pretty emotional, heavy review for it. We’re now in 2020, this book is always on my mind, I carry a piece of this book with me and this book a piece of myself. I would champion this book so hard, if only you knew. If you haven’t heard of this book before, I don’t want to spoil anything for you. I will say that this book is a letter from all the victims of molestation and rape who never had their story told, never received justice for their suffering. So, I will leave the only song I can recommend to pair with this book. How To Save a Life cover by Boyce Avenue

Okay, friends! I may have gone a little soft, a little sappy, and shared a piece of my heart with all of you. I really, really cherish that book though. Who am I kidding, I cherish all of these books! They wouldn’t be on this list if I didn’t love them in some way. If you haven’t checked out any of these books yet then you definitely need to change that. Each one is so amazing in their own way. Please, feel free to tell me in the comments below about the books and song pairings that you have. Until next time, please continue to stay safe, stay healthy, I love you! ๐Ÿ’•

Heartstopper Reading Playlist

Salutation Chapterlings! I feel like it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done another playlist! If you remember, the last playlist I posted about was about some of the ambiance I listen to while I’m trying to really knock out some reading. On there I had mostly asmr themed sounds except for one or two videos. I also mentioned my friend, Emily who has her own bookish inspired playlists! I can’t recommend her playlists enough! When I do my reviewing playlist, you know I’m going to be mentioning her again and because I love her to pieces! โค๏ธ So that’s a little recap of the last playlist I introduced to all of you. It was a pretty decent sized list! Well, this playlist might be just as long, if not longer! You can also listen to the Spotify playlist right HERE!

I don’t think I’ve ever done this kind of playlist before. We’ve all listened to love songs and we’ve all probably burned a CD or two of love songs for the person we were romancing in our younger years, but now I’m compiling a list of lovey dovey romance songs for the one and only Heartstopper by Alice Oseman! I just recently finished my review of Heartstopper Vol. 2 and upon finishing it I instantly wanted to make a playlist for both volumes. So there’s a good chance this is going to be a really long list. You might want to strap in for a wild ride of sappy love songs and interesting recommendations as I dive into this playlist. Also, if you haven’t read Heartstopper yet, then I highly recommend checking both volumes out! You can also read it for free HERE!

But please, if you have any songs you want to add to this list or songs you feel fit these two volumes perfectly then let me know in the comments! There Will Come A Darkness Reading Playlist

Ah, it’s time for another playlist! Yes, another one I say! I have been debating this playlist for a long time now, but I finally decided to take the dive and make it. And oh boy, this was not an easy playlist to make. I found so many songs that worked for this book that I really had to cut this playlist down. Originally, this list had twenty songs on it. That’s right, twenty songs… on this list. However, I managed to cut it down to the ones that I have. It was painful, but we’re here and I hope you all enjoy them! You will also be able to find this playlist right HERE!

So why am I posting this playlist so late? Well, I honestly couldn’t decide if I really wanted to commit to that playlist. However, one of my friends had to remind me that I made a playlist for two other books that made my top 2019 books. In my review of There Will Come A Darkness, I recommend that lovers of Shadow of the Fox and Wicked Saints should pick this book up. I still stand with my recommendation! And to be honest, I loved this book so much that I couldn’t resist the call to make a playlist for it anymore. With the release date for this book right around the corner (September 3rd, 2019), it was time to make a playlist. Now, without any further delay, I hope all of you enjoy this playlist I have put together for this marvelous book!

๐ŸŒป Game of Survival by Ruelle

๐ŸŒป Blame by Bastille

๐ŸŒป Legends Are Made by Sam Tinnesz

๐ŸŒป Guardian Angels by Abel Korzeniowski

๐ŸŒป Start A War by Klergy feat. Valerie Broussard

๐ŸŒป Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Lorde

๐ŸŒป Only Love by Jordan Smith

๐ŸŒป Anger by Sleeping At Last

๐ŸŒป Walk Through the Fire by ZAYDE WOLF feat. Ruelle

๐ŸŒป The Downfall by Ruelle

๐ŸŒป Ashes by Celine Dion

๐ŸŒป Meet Me on the Battlefield by SVRCINA

Okay, Chapterlings! I hope you enjoyed this playlist as much as I did putting it all together! Believe me, this wasn’t easy and it was really hard to narrow it down to these twelve songs. There are so many amazing songs that fit this book and it’s contents perfectly, but these songs just won my love a little bit more. Please, let me know in the comments what you think and whether or not you’ll be getting a copy of this book on release day! And until next time; may your TBR be full, I love you! โค๏ธ

My Go-To Reading Playlist

Salutations Chapterlings! I hope you all are having a fabulous time reading! I can’t wait to see everyone’s wrap ups and hauls! But I’m even more excited to see more playlists! My fellow Bookstababe, Emily has been crushing the book playlists recently. She basically inspired me to make this playlists! While we all love and adore playlists for specific books, sometimes we want to take a look at what someone listens to while they read. I know for myself, I’m always curious if someone is listening to jazzy beats or if they’re kickin’ it old school! There’s so many wonderful and amazing songs, sounds, and independent artists to choose and listen to! So I figured I would share a little insight to my go-to reading playlist.

My playlist probably isn’t like most playlists. My list is a combination of sounds, noises, and instrumental music…or in a sense, ambient music. If you’re anything like me, then you may be an intense reader. If there’s a really high action scene in a book you may get really anxious or get an adrenaline rush, or perhaps you come to a really emotional scene and even though you’re three chapters past that, you’re stilling crying and thinking about that one scene. Yeah, that’s the type of reader I am. So due to those heighten feelings, I need specific noises and sounds to keep me balanced out. Hence, my go-to playlist. Filled with asmr, ambient noises, instrumental goodness, and soothing sounds. Now, here’s my list of some of my most used and overplayed videos from my playlist!

Dragon Age: Inquisition Soundtrack
Rainy Day at the Coffee Shop
Rainy Piano Studio Ghibli Songs
Slytherin Dormitory ASMR
Enchanted Lands
Chronicles of Narnia Ambient Music
Avatar: Pandora at Night Ambience
Rainy Night at Hogwarts
Relaxing Jazz
Night Rain ASMR
Thunderstorm ASMR
Deep Sea

Okay, friends! Those are some of my most played videos on my go-to playlist. I hope you all enjoyed this list as much as I did sharing it with all of you! I hope that you’ll give some of these a try and test them out for yourselves! I would love to know if you have a go-to reading playlist that you listen to while reading! Let me know in the comments below some of your favorite sounds or songs! And as always, I hope you’re having a wonderful time reading, I love you! โค๏ธ

Shadow of the Fox Reading Playlist

GoodReads|Amazon|Barnes&Noble|BookDepository

You can find my review for this book on my GoodReads and on my blog!

โ€œThe future,โ€ she said, her voice echoing over the crowd, โ€œis an ever changing stream. Every choice, every decision we make, sends it down a different path.โ€

I think the biggest thing for me with this book, it feels like a slice of familiarity. Reading about this group of people traveling together remind me so much of some of my favorite anime shows like Inuyasha or Samurai Champloo or even Naruto. I always love seeing various group dynamics come together and how their personalities mesh with each other. Julie Kagawa has done a marvelous job with this. The way Yumeko and Tatsumi are together is so unique and works so well with one another, that Iโ€™m constantly craving more. Even as characters were added to their group, the way the different personalities bounced off one another was so good. I love it and I canโ€™t wait to see how the various personalities continue to bloom and grow in Julieโ€™s future books in this series!

I loved this book so much and I’m still thinking about every little piece from this book! The characters are some of the most captivating that will lure you into investing every emotions you have into them. But having this reading experience wouldn’t be complete without the amazing music I was listening to while reading this ya fantasy! So without any further delay, let me share some of the best music to listen to while reading this book!

Memoirs of a Geisha Full Soundtrack
Relaxing Japanese Music
Zen Garden
MISIA – DEEPNESS
MISIA – ็™ฝใ„ๅญฃ็ฏ€
Japanese Battle Music

Okay, friends! That’s my whole playlists for Shadow of the Fox! I hope you give some of these amazing tunes a chance and you enjoy them as much as I do. With the sequel right on the horizon, I might just have to make a playlist for that one as well. As always, I hope your month is full of amazing reads and if you haven’t decided on what to read next, I hope you consider giving Shadow of the Fox a chance! Until next time, I love you and may your tbr be full! โค๏ธ

Wicked Saints Reading Playlist

GoodReads|Amazon|Barnes&Noble

Arc provided by Wednesday Books in exchange for an honest review.

Find my review for this book on my GoodReads and on my blog!

โ€œDazzle the monsters, Nadya. Youโ€™ve already charmed the worst of the lot; the rest should be easy.โ€

We all have our methods of reading. Some of us like to read in a tree, some of us listen to asmr while reading, and some of us just have random quirks that help make our reading experiences even better. I have many methods, like everyone else, of pushing myself to read or to make my reading experience a little better. One thing I recently realized was I had an amazing playlist that engaged me and made my reading experience with Wicked Saints so much better than it already was. I thought that I would share some of those songs!

I have recommended this book to so many people since this release. Along with recommending this book to anyone who has shown the slightest interest, I have recommended a short playlist along with it. I have gone through my Wicked Saints playlist and chosen six songs that would be perfect to listen to while reading this book!

Number One: Recuse Myself by Demon Hunter
Number Two: Sadness (Full Version) by Enigma
Number Three: Escapade by Skrux
Number Four: Diamond Heart by Alan Walker
Number Five: Monster by Imagine Dragons
Number Six: Everybody Wants to Rule the World (Extended) by Lorde

Those are my top six picks for my playlist! It was such a hard choice because there were so many great songs to choose from. I loved putting this playlist together and you’re bound to see more playlists in the future. I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do and I can’t wait to put the next playlist together for you all!
